What the frick is this?

ONCE UPON A TIME ON THE INTERNET aims to be the first comprehensive documentary film on the history, impact, and endurance of Newgrounds. From the site's inception as a digital dumping ground for a seventeen year old, through its peak as the premier place for animations and games online, its struggle to survive with the rise of monolithic social media platforms, and its continuous resurgence, Newgrounds's story is truly one of a kind, and deserves to be told.

We have nearly four dozen people onboard to be interviewed, including former and current Newgrounds staff, users, and legends from the site's 30 years online. We also have access to a previously attempted film project from 2009, giving us a time capsule into the workings of the site and the most important people involved from that era.

We want this to be the professional production that the site deserves, and with your help, we can see this come to fruition.

Why do you need MY frickin money?

This Kickstarter is to raise $80,000 for Production. With this, we'll be able to travel this upcoming summer to interview our participants in-person. We have tons of cool rewards and perks in store, many of which are exclusive to this campaign, so if you have a love for anything and everything Newgrounds, this campaign is a great way for you to give back.

Who the frick are YOU?

On Newgrounds I go by @littlbox, but my irl name is Conner Nyberg. I've been on Newgrounds in some form or capacity for over 10 years, and I've been making films for even longer. I've directed/produced a feature-length documentary entitled Your Friend Logan, alongside a myriad of short films, and graduated from UNC School of the Arts with a major in Film Producing. I have a passion for independent filmmaking largely spurred by Newgrounds's DIY ethic, and this is my way of giving back to the community and site.
